Winner of our Winter Wonderland Facebook Competition
Two weeks ago we started a wee photography competition on our Facebook page to encourage people to post their winter pictures of West Lothian! Participants were in with a chance of winning £30 worth of The Centre, Livingston vouchers in time for Christmas - what a response we got! We had over 180 pictures posted to our page showing all different aspects to the weather – from amazing frozen lakes and forests, to family’s enjoying memorable times with the kids. It’s been far harder to pick a winner than we originally anticipated, partly due to the amount of pictures we received but also because of the quality with some clearly excellent photographers taking part.
Firstly, before I announce the winner we would like to thank everyone who took part, commented or liked the pictures on our wall. We really feel that all the images literally painted a picture of people not only coping with the snow but making the most of it as well. It was great to see so many amazing scenes and family’s having fantastic times together.
So drum roll please………. This year’s West Lothian Winter Wonderland Photographer of the Year is – Robert Stout – with this fantastic image of the frozen Almond River. We think he has really captured a winter wonderland with this shot. The trees look decorated by the snow with the light shining through them. It’s a great shot and we hope you agree a deserved winner. Congratulations to Robert – we will be sending out The Centre, Livingston vouchers as soon as we have your address!
Amendment: After writing this blog post I got in touch with Rab [Robert] and thought I would add a quote: “I have had a great time taking some shots and entering this competition.. I have spoken to some people on here [the Visit West Lothian Facebook page] that I would not have known otherwise.I am really chuffed to have won this as this is the first time I have entered in any photography competitions.
I consider photography as a hobby, although I have just finished a 12 week open university course(still to get results whether I have passed or not). The course which I have just finished was the T189 Digital photography: creating and sharing better images. I would recommend anyone wanting to get to know about photography to do this short course. During the course though I wanted to learn a little bit more so I joined Mid Calder camera club which I really enjoy.. I hope that there are more of these competitions in the future, as it is a great way of getting people to interact with each other…”
You can see more of Rab’s work on his Flickr profile and Rab is also a member of The Mid Calder Camera Club
There were so many more great pictures and I regret we can not mention them all in this blog post! You can of course see all the entries to the competition on our Facebook page. Thanks to everyone who entered and a big thanks to The Centre, Livingston who generously provided our great prize.
