Visit West Lothian New Board Directors Welcome Event!
Visit West Lothian hosted a welcome event on Wednesday 11 June at the Mercure Livingston Hotel to mark the appointment of six new Board Directors, recruited as part of an ongoing drive to promote tourism in West Lothian, central Scotland’s playground.
Adopting a strategic approach to their recruitment drive, Visit West Lothian appointed Directors with a strong skill set to help further the aspirations of the company and showcase West Lothian as a central tourism destination.
The newest additions to the Visit West Lothian Board of Directors are: Professor John Ensor from Edinburgh Napier University, Jilly Burns, Head of National and International Partnerships at the National Museums Scotland, Gordon Mackie, Client Engagement Director for CGI, Tony Foster, Chief Executive of Kirknewton Development Trust, David Allen, Director for Scotland, People 1st and Gaurav Malhotra, Restaurant Manager at the Bay Leaf Restaurant, Pumpherston.
Welcoming the new appointments at the event, Nick Williams, Chair of Visit West Lothian, highlighted the aspirations of the organisation and the plans for both the long term and the year ahead.
Commenting on their posts the Board Directors said:
David Allen from People 1st: “I was attracted to the ambition of the organisation and the opportunities available. I hope to influence and drive the organisation as I believe that the area has great potential and resources and I want to put West Lothian on the tourism map.”
Professor John Ensor from Edinburgh Napier University commented: “I was interested in joining the VWL Board as the organisation comes across as being very dynamic and I have an interest in further developing West Lothian as a destination.”
Tony Foster, Kirknewton Community Development Trust, said: “I believe that West Lothian has an interesting and diverse offering which can suit different visitor groups due to its mix of large and small industries. I am interested in what I can do to make a difference to developing the area further.”
Within easy reach of Glasgow and Edinburgh, West Lothian is home to a range of award-winning tourist attractions and events, playing host to Party at the Palace, the Gillespie Macandrew Hopetoun Horse Trials and the British Pipe Band Championships.
