About Kirk of Calder – Mid Calder

The Kirk of Calder building dates from 1542 and was extended in 1863, although a church is to believed to have existed on the same site since 1150. It is a 3 star VisitScotland attraction and was awarded the West Lothian Conservation award in 1992.

Services are held every Sunday at 10:30am (all welcome) and in addition the church is open to the public on Sunday afternoons from May till September between 2pm & 4pm (admission free).    The building is Historic Scotland grade listed, and its spectacular stained glass windows were restored in 1995. The organ was built by by James Connacher in 1888.

Famous previous visitors to the Church include John Knox, James Paraffin Young, David Livingstone and Frederick Chopin.  The Kirk of Calder website provides a large amount of information on the history of the church and its present operations and includes over 200 photos of the building.
