Gary Fyfe - Linlithgow Palace

We caught up with Gary about their entry to the photography competition to see what inspired them to take the picture.

About the competition

The #MyWestLothian competition was launched to help encourage visitors and locals alike to show what West Lothian means to them. The winner of the competition will receive shopping vouchers for The Centre Livingston and a chance to have their work publicly displayed.

The Centre

The Centre is Scotland’s leading retail destination with over 155 shops and restaurants.

About the entry

When and where did you take the photograph?

I live in Uphall Station so Linlithgow is a short drive away and a regular place for me to visit with the camera. I visit the Palace at different times of year as the atmosphere changes so much with the seasons. I visited Linlithgow Palace on this particular instance last year to try the technique of "intentional camera movement" (ICM) and used a couple of other basic techniques to get the final feel I was after. I love the art of Turner, where he created a very airy and pastel feel to his images and it was this feel that I was trying to create at Linlithgow. I have done a similar thing with my image of the bridge at Belhaven Bay and this did well in an SPF competition a couple of years ago.

Linlithgow Palace

This royal pleasure palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.
