As the school terms comes to an end, keep the little one’s entertained with the wonders of West Lothian. With a wide range of fun filled activities to choose from the only difficult decision you will have to make this summer is where to go first. Check out our suggestions to make the very best of your summer.


Ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time? Why not find out by journeying back to medieval Scotland at “Spectacular Jousting at The Palace”. Hear the thunder of hooves and the crack of lances splintering as our brave knights stage an unforgettable display of horsemanship and skill with sword and lance. Enjoy a fantastic fun day out in the magnificent setting of Linlithgow Palace Peel, as you cheer on your chosen knight, wander through the colourful camps and see the exciting foot combat, living history displays and comedy shows. This magnificent event runs over two days from Sat 1st & Sun 2nd July 2017. Time: 12.30pm - 4.30pm.

Just because school has finished for the summer doesn’t mean we have to stop learning new things. Teach the little one’s an amazing range of outdoor skills this summer with “Den Building Adventures at Almond Valley”. Join the tribe for daring daily adventures exploring some of the wildest and most remote corners of the Almond Valley site. Build your shelter, set up camp, forage for food, keep a lookout for wild animals, and learn how to survive in the wild for at least half an hour. Supervised adventure sessions, suitable for children and parents of all ages, take place at 11.30am and 14.30pm each day. There's no need to book in advance;  just drop in and join the tribe. Daily from Saturday 1st July until Tuesday 22nd August.

It is summertime and if that is not a reason to dance then what is? “Scotch Hop” is a popular and lively event which offers an evening of Scottish dancing for all the family. Held in the infamous and historic setting of the Linlithgow Palace Courtyard, you can dance to live music from great Scottish bands.  You don't need to know the dances, our Caller will talk you through all the routines and make sure you have a memorable experience. Tickets are available at the door and include tea and shortbread! This fun filled event runs on Wednesday evenings 12 July - 9 August at: 7.30pm- 10pm.

Bring the little one’s along to Hopetoun Grounds this July 21st for “Trailblazers”. Try your luck at the Hopetoun Grounds Trail; Solve the clues, decipher the codes and explore the grounds along the way. Drop in anytime between 12noon and 4.00pm; bring the whole family to join in with the adventure!  This must do event is for all abilities and is Autism friendly.


The area of West Lothian has so much to offer so why not try out one of our popular visitor attractions!

Why not pay a visit to one of Scotland’s most important Palaces. This magnificent building shall give you the chance to explore the stunning ruins of the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. Linlithgow Palace offers a great way to spend a day in the summer holiday’s.

There is no need to travel out to Africa this summer to see exotic animals simply head along to the The Five Sisters Zoo. This spectacular visitor attraction has everything from Lions to Lemurs and is fun for all the family.  

Health & Wellbeing

Release your competitive side at Paradise Island Adventure Golf. This 19 hole course will test you from start to finish. An ideal activity for families, friends or couples.

To cool off in the hot summer sun come along to Xcite Livingston. This state of the art facility is fun for all ages whether you want to take a relaxing dip in the pool or come shooting down one of the twisting and turning flumes there is fun to be found here for everyone.
