  • Linlithgow Canal Centre is a VisitScotland 3 star attraction operated entirely by friendly, unpaid members of Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS).

    Avon Aqueduct cruises run on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, departing at 2pm sharp and returning by 4.30pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits included. Booking is not necessary.

    Linlithgow Town trips, lasting 20 minutes, depart every half hour from 2pm – 4:30pm. No booking necessary.

    The Canal Tearoom is a great place to relax and enjoy fresh baking and tea or coffee it is  open from 1.30pm - 5pm.  Town trips and the Tearoom (but NOT Aqueduct Cruises) also operate every day during July and the first two weeks of August.

    St Magdalene (up to 40 passengers) and Victoria (up to 12 passengers) are available for charter and Leamington (max 12) is available for self-drive hire.

    The Canal museum is housed in a former canal stable and exhibits records, photographs and artefacts associated mainly with the Union Canal.The display covers the development of the British canal system and explains why and how the can was built, the water supply, the canal at work, important dates in its history and the wildlife to be found in,on and around the canal. Open from 1.30pm-5pm.

  • By Car

    From Edinburgh and the east leave the M9 at junction 3 and follow the A803 into Linlithgow. The Canal Basin is signposted from the roundabout at the east end of the High Street in Linlithgow. Take the B9080 towards Winchburgh. Immediately after going under the railway bridge at the lights turn sharp right up Back Station Road, 300 yards further on bear left over the canal bridge. The basin is on the right.

    From Falkirk and the north leave the M9 at junction 4 and follow the A803. Drive through the town to the roundabout at the east end of the High Street then proceed as above.

    From Glasgow and the west leave the M8 at junction 4 and follow the A706 into Linlithgow. Take the second exit from the roundabout onto the High Street and through the town to the roundabout at the east end of the High Street. Then take the B9080 towards Winchburgh. Immediately after going under the railway bridge at the lights turn sharp right up Back Station Road, 300 yards further on bear left over the canal bridge. The basin is on the right.

    From Carlisle and the south leave the M74 at junction 13. Follow the A73 into Lanark and join the A706 to Linlithgow then the same directions as from Glasgow (see above).

    By Bus
    Buses serve Linlithgow from Edinburgh, Stirling and many towns within West Lothian. Get off at the Star and Garter Hotel at the east end of the High Street and walk up past the station, under the railway bridge and the basin is on the far side of the canal, which faces you.

    By Train
    Linlithgow station is on the line from Edinburgh Waverly to Falkirk, Glasgow Queen Street and to Dunblane. Walk out of the station from the westbound platform, turn right into Back Station Road and the Canal Basin is 100 yards on the far side of the bridge.
