The Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society is a small and friendly organisation on the Union Canal in West Lothian. Our boat trips are run entirely by our volunteer members and will take you along part of the stretch of the canal between Bridge 19, east of Broxburn, and Bridge 40, to the west of Philpstoun.

Bluebell is our 45ft long traditional narrowboat and can take up to 12 passengers on boat trips along the canal.

Our cost-effective "taster" trips last around 30 minutes and run on the first Sunday of the month between April - October.

We also run very popular Santa and Easter Bunny trips, local history trips over the Almond Aqueduct, and get involved in local community events. Follow our facebook page to keep an eye out for news of our seasonal trips and activities.

Bluebell can also be hired with a driver and crew for private bookings for up to 12 people. We supply tea and coffee and you can bring your own food and drink. Hire Bluebell for a birthday party, a family outing, a company away day, or just because you and a group of friends want a wee cruise along the canal.

Enjoy the canal from the water - it's a very different experience to walking along the towpath. You'll enjoy the tranquility of watching the world go by as we pass through pretty - and historic - countryside. Being on a boat on a canal is very therapeutic.

We also aim to maintain the canal as a pleasant amenity for boating, walking, jogging, cycling or fishing.

Roseann is our work boat, used for environmental activities along the canal, such as litter picks, trimming vegetation and removing obstacles from the water.

The Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society is a registered charity (SC023110) run solely by volunteers and supported from donations and income from boat trips. We aim to make all our activities inclusive and cost-effective and are always pleased to welcome new members.
