You'll start the route at Almondell & Calderwood Country Park Visitor Centre, before heading over the bridge behind and further into the countryside. Toilet facilities are available at the Visitor Centre before you set off.
Behind the Visitor Centre, near the children's play park, cross over the Mandela suspension bridge and continue to the left hand side of the Union Canal Feeder.
Keep following the Canal Feeder for approximately 10 minutes
As you cross a small road leading to a Farm (on the left), look out for the Lin's Mill sign and continue following the direction on the sign.
Shortly after the sign, you'll begin an incline up some wooden steps. Be careful on this section as the steps are steep and uneven.
At the top of the steps, continue following the path with the Canal Feeder on your right. At this point, the panorama will open up and offer spectacular sights across rolling hills in the foreground, West Lothian's famous Bings in the middle and out to Mountain Ranges in the distance.
After a short while, on your right, you'll see some newly built wooden steps. Head up these where you'll reach a quiet road. At this point, turn left.
A short distance along the road, you'll be presented with two options - either going left or right.
Turn Left to go beneath the Aqueduct and continue the walk on the North side, or turn right to reach the Car Park (note, you need to go under the Aqueduct to reach the other side of the canal). If you go to the North Side, directly at the end of the Aqueduct head up the steps on the right to join the Canal Towpath.
By now, you'll have reached the top of the Aqueduct! This is the end of this point to point route, however, there are a number of options to continue your journey:
- Union Canal Walk
- Loop back to Almondell & Calderwood Country Park
